PAX trax to hit Rock Band DLC
by Beau King September 2nd 2008 8:32 AM CDT0 Comments
Those attending the Penny Arcade Expo, or PAX (not me) had the opportunity to hear some lesser known bands rock it out on stage. Keeping it's loyal fans in mind, the men of PAX have decided to release some of the songs via Rock Band DLC. Starting today each song can be downloaded at 80 MS points (99 cents) individually or as a pack. Anyone extremely interested in knowing what these tracks are can continue below:
- Jonathan Coulton - "Skullcrusher Mountain"
- MC Frontalot - "Livin' on the Corner of Dude and Catastrophe"
- Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - "Shhh "

Death Tank coming to Live
by Beau King September 2nd 2008 8:11 AM CDT0 Comments
The SEGA Saturn originally caught this gem as an addition to PowerSlave and now it will find its way into the hearts and minds of the Xbox community. The 2D tank warfare arcade title will be remade by Snowblind studios and Flat Games. Those unaware of the game can compare it to an updated version of Bowman 2 except with tanks separated by pixelated mountaintops.
The obligatory graphical overhaul is in the works as well as four-play online battles and competitions. Each player will also be able to upgrade various aspects as they climb the ranks. -
GoW 2 producer thinks the 360 is reaching its limit
by Beau King September 1st 2008 9:07 PM CDT0 Comments
Someone other than Cliff Bleszinski is bringing word from the Gears of War camp about the Xbox 360's potential. This time it's Rod Fergusson, Producer behind the franchise. In an interview with Gamasutra Rod discusses the Xbox's technological limits in terms of how far the pony will go.
No specific time frame was mentioned, but in his mind most games in the near future will be all out of tricks. The closest he gets to a date is through the following part of the interview:
"There will be games in development that won't ship until 2010, and I'm sure they'll look killer, just because, again, they'll have more time with it, and learn from mistakes and optimizations of others. So, I don't know; I think we're getting up there, but I still think there's room to grow."
A fair look as the thing ain't getting any younger and has only but so much disc space. Nevertheless, bigger isn't always better.

Guitar Hero DLC to come with Metallica album preorder
by Sam Atkins September 1st 2008 5:47 PM CDT0 Comments
In an unexpected offer that BestBuy are putting on, fans of Metallica will get some Guitar Hero III DLC when they preorder the band's new album, Death Magnetic. The content will come with any of the editions of the album currently available for preorder, if the supplies last that is. Eleven tracks will be included which will probably be from the album itself, meaning that anyone thinking about buying it any time soon should definitely go for this brilliant deal. Chances are that the Metallica fans are already on their way, raring for something new to play on the game.

360 price reduced in Japan
by Chris Holmes September 1st 2008 3:58 PM CDT0 Comments
After seemingly setting Japan on fire with it's tenacious sales, Microsoft has reduced the price of the console in the territory. At a press conference in Japan today, they confirmed the new price will be 19,800 yen, which is roughly £100 or $180, down from 27,800 yen.
This might help the failing console in the land of the rising sun, as sales went back to normal after the Tales of Vesperia release chaos calmed down. The Japanese public seem to be playing hard to get with Microsoft at the moment, and the company is getting desperate.

Ninja Blade announced at Microsoft's Fall Press Conference
by Sam Atkins September 1st 2008 8:06 AM CDT1 Comments
Take a look at the screenshot of Ninja Blade to the left, and although you may be reminded of a certain other Ninja franchise, this one is brand new. Showing an extremely brief trailer, the game was announced as being developed by From Software, who recently came to the console with Tenchu Z and Armoured Core.
The trailer is impressive, albeit in a flashy "this probably won't be gameplay" way, but we can look forward to more information on Ninja Blade in the coming months. None the less, it is releaving to see a non shooter exclusive come out for the Xbox 360.

Gears of War 2 to forever be a 360 exclusive
by Sam Atkins August 30th 2008 6:36 PM CDT1 Comments
In a recent IGN interview with Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski, the prospect of a PC port of the upcoming shooter was reduced to nothing. Saying that a port would never happen may seem like a stupid thing to say, especially since the last game was ported. But the fact that GoW was changed to fit the PC market made the developers know that keyboard and mouse controls don't work with the game. The stop and pop style 3rd person gameplay is suited to the Xbox controller, so they don't want to make a botch job trying to fit it onto PC. Built from the ground up as a 360 game, Gears of War 2 is set for release on November 7th, but who hasn't got that date inbedded into their brain already?

Good news for those eagerly awaiting EA's new survival horror sci-fi game; the game's release date is set to be pushed forward. Due to the game being finished earlier than expected, the company are letting fans get their hands on Dead Space on October 24th. Sony's Stringer admits PS3 business model f***ed
by Kevin Prince August 29th 2008 2:33 AM CDT1 Comments
In a recent interview Howard Stringer has said that the $3.3 billion that Sony have lost on the PS3 will likely never be recovered 'in his lifetime'. Its funny to see how the tables between Microsoft and Sony have changed since the last generation, Nintendo however are still printing money.
