  • Rocket Riots will riot XBLA with rockets this fall

by Gus Lanzetta August 18th 2008 7:30 PM CDT0 Comments

THQ has announced that it's Worms clone, Rocket Riots, will be released on Xbox Live Arcade sometime this fall (and we bet it's gonna be on a wednesday none the less).

The game has a similar premise to that of the Worms series, but instead of mini-snakes from the dirt, you will control ninjas and zombies. Now, maybe the game sucks, but it already gets extra awesome-points for having ninjas AND zombies. The game's multiplayer mode will support up to 4 players locally and 8 online.
  • Tales of Vesperia makes the japanese crazy for the 360

by Gus Lanzetta August 18th 2008 7:17 PM CDT0 Comments

The Media Create game sales numbers are the NPDs of Japan and anyone that's been keeping up with them noticed something weird on the 360 camp when July's numbers hit journalist's and executive's inboxes last week. This weird factoid is that Tales of Vesperia sold 108k units since it launched in early July. You're probably thinking "108k? That's not a lot." Well, that's where you are wrong, WRONG I tell you. With those numbers Tales of Vesperia became the fastest selling title for the Xbox 360 in the land of pokemans and sailor-celestial bodies. I mean... Weird right?

  • One hundred ProtoTypers out on the street

by Gus Lanzetta August 18th 2008 7:06 PM CDT2 Comments

Gamasutra reported that, as another move in Activision Blizzard's reestructuring, one hundred employees of Radical Entertainment that were working in the upcoming ProtoType were fired. It's hard to know how this will affect the game's development cycle, but it was not cancelled or delayed (yet).

This comes as no surprise after the company did the same with other studios it owns and canceled many titles (including a new Scarface game). All we can hope for is that the talented and hard working developers that lost their jobs find positions in other studios and that Activision Blizzard's games don't turn into complete garbage.
  • Geometry Wars 2 obsession gets fueled

by Gus Lanzetta August 18th 2008 6:57 PM CDT0 Comments

This website is probably the new home page of a bunch of no-lifes that happen to be better than me in Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2. It is Bizarre's new weapon in the battle of making everyone single gamer out there completely obsessed with their friends' high scores in the game's many modes.

To add to the fever, MyGamerCard.net released a Geometry Wars High Score card generator (like mine, right above) so you can carry your geon induced points to every forum you go to. Make one for yourself HERE. Good luck having a life after all these cool taunting tools.
  • Xbox Focus @ Leipzig Games Convention begins

by Chris Holmes August 18th 2008 5:07 PM CDT0 Comments

After what can only be described as a caged E3 receiving a lacklustre reception from the press and fans following the event, it falls on the Leipzig Games Convention to once again take up the slack and deliver to the community. Unfortunately, this could be the last GC in Leipzig, but we've got Kevin Prince attending the event, representing Xbox Focus. Kevin is known for his bizarrely strong handshakes and love for business cards, and I will be assisting him from back at the XF HQ. The doors officially open on the 20th for Press, and 21st for the general public, but hopefully he's going to have a look in at the Leipzigger Messe a day or so early to see it being setup. Regardless, stay with Xbox Focus for all your Leipzig news, we've given him instructions to play everything with a working 360 so he might get some impressions.

The convention has got so big it's starting to outgrow the relatively small and disconnected city of Leipzig, and next year the main backing company of the event has decided to start a new show in Cologne called GAMESCom, so let's give Leipzig a very big send off and a fond fairwell.
  • Force Unleashed demo coming August 21st

by Chris Holmes August 18th 2008 7:46 AM CDT1 Comments

Over the weekend, LucasArts confirmed that a demo for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be released on August 21st on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Apparently the demo will include a force grip tutorial to teach us the ways of the force, and a level from the full game set in the TIE Fighter Construction Facility.

In this level, you have to stop Jedi Rahm Kota and his crew from laying siege to the key building, with Darth Vader instructing you to kill everything in site. This demo is a good idea for LucasArts as previous Star Wars games have left a lot to be desired, so a direct showing of this could calm the doubters and bring order to the force.
  • Castle Crashers officially going to cost 1200 MS Points

by Chris Holmes August 14th 2008 8:01 AM CDT0 Comments

After the completely mad pricing rumours of 1800 microsoft points making everyone scared a week or so ago, The Behemoth has today put everyone's mind at rest by confirming that Castle Crashers is going to cost 1200 microsoft points.

In real money, this is $15, £10.20, 13.96EUR, etc. This is quite good value given what the game offers, and The Behemoth took a lot of pleasure in telling fans on it's site that the game is "this month's only online multiplayer XLA game". Look out for it on August 27th, you can watch a countdown on the official site.
  • SBK08 demo arrives on Live (to some people)

by Chris Holmes August 14th 2008 7:14 AM CDT0 Comments

A demo for SBK08 (the official game of the Superbike World Championship) arrived on the Live Marketplace today.

However, before you rush off and try to download it, the demo is not available in North America or Asia.

Regardless, the demo has two different tracks, all the riders, bikes and teams, as well as weather effects and customisation that you would expect, so go and get it now. Oh wait.
  • Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09 demo hits Live

by Chris Holmes August 14th 2008 7:02 AM CDT0 Comments

EA has today released a demo of this year's version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour on the Xbox Live Marketplace. The size of the demo is just shy of the 1GB mark, at a large 1009MB.

The content of it is essentially three holes on the brand new Gary Player Country Club in South Africa.

Also, you'll be able to be trained by Woods' coach and will have the ability to customise your golf clubs if you don't find them good enough for whacking a ball a few hundred yards.
