Meteos Wars comes to XBLA this October
by Gus Lanzetta August 28th 2008 2:04 AM CDT0 Comments
The folks at Q Entertainment like making puzzle games and they are coming out with a new one, Meteos Wars for the Xbox Live Arcade. The game will feature Mission Mode, Attack Mode and VS. Mode (local and over Xbox Live). This time around you'll have Planet Impact special attacks, the four of them being: Armageddon, Gambit, Sentinel and Tempest. Add that to 20 different alien races, planets and meteos blocks and you will probably get 800... 800 Microsoft Points, which is, coincidentaly, the price of the game. Look for it in October on a Xbox Live Arcade near you.

Street Fighter IV avoiding console specific characters
by Sam Atkins August 27th 2008 2:25 PM CDT1 Comments
In an interview with videogamer.com, Yoshinori Ono-Producer of Street Fighter IV-stated that there will be no console specific characters, unlike the most recent fighter to come to the 360. As if in answer to the Yoda/Darth Vader exclusivity nonsense in Soul Calibur IV, Ono said that 'it's not very fair' towards consumers, which is a valid point.
While many will speculate that DLC won't have this guarantee, he goes on to say that not even DLC will have console specific fighters, which is sure to please the many Street Fighter fans who don't want to contemplate opting for the PS3 version, with the 'better' character. -
Castle Crashers charges on to Live Arcade
by Chris Holmes August 27th 2008 11:01 AM CDT1 Comments
The Behemoth's Castle Crashers has finally arrived on the Xbox Live Arcade today, for a princely price of 1200 Microsoft Points. The side-scrolling beat-em-up is the last title in this year's "Summer of Arcade" promotion, and is a fitting way to bring this surprisingly good Arcade season to an end. It features a whole host of modes and things to do, including 4 player Live Co-Op, so start crashing those castles now.

Gears of War 2 bonus DVD details
by Sam Atkins August 26th 2008 3:02 PM CDT0 Comments
The website of the BBFC has posted details of the bonus DVD that the special edition of Gears of War 2 will come with. The information states the running time of each section of the DVD, along with problems that were apparent in the disc the BBFC viewed. The titles of the chapters give information away about the disc, so we know that the DVD will consist of character, location, vehicle sections, with extra footage included to boot. Each section is pretty short in length, save for 'Beneath the Surface', which exceeds the 30-minute mark. The whole list can be found after the jump, for anyone who is thinking of investing in the most expensive of the Gears of War 2 bundles.

No keyboard coming to "World Tour"
by Steve Wysowski August 26th 2008 1:10 PM CDT0 Comments
If you're favorite rock song is "Jump" or "Karn Evil 9", you might want to turn away.
Brian Bright of Neversoft has just confirmed to Joystiq that there will be no keyboard peripheral coming to Guitar Hero: World Tour. Instead he stated that the company has larger plans for a keyboard-based title:
"A keyboard controller deserves to be introduced with its own game. This is something we're thinking about." So, what about all the keyboard sections in the song creator? Bright says,. "there are reasons why we haven't included a keyboard controller." He elaborates that not all of the songs have keyboard parts so, "adding a keyboard controller would either have limited our choices, or the players."
Rock Band 2 will not be releasing with a keyboard either. I guess this year we won't be able to play a Van Halen song properly.

Rumor: GTA IV DLC to add 15 hours of gameplay, coming in November
by Gus Lanzetta August 26th 2008 12:44 PM CDT2 Comments
RPG TV's Cris Thomas recently posted a rumor that the new downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV will add 15 hours of gameplay and will hit in November. He also stated that his alledged Microsoft London insider tiped him on the release date of the new Xbox 360 dashboard which should also be in November.
For now, both statements have not been confirmed nor denied by Microsoft or Rockstar, but when products get announced for fall, guessing that they'll hit in November is not really a stretch. It's hard to tell now if the information is true and/or if it did come from a Microsoft London employee. We should have comments from the companies soon and we all know that a simple "no comment" means a lot more than what is implied.

GC: Fable 2 Hands-On
by Kevin Prince August 26th 2008 12:04 PM CDT1 Comments
Fable 2 is set to be one of the biggest games this holiday season, and during this week’s Leipzig Games Convention, I was able to sit down with audio producer George Backer from Lionhead Games for a quick walkthrough and play test..jpg)
For those not familiar with the game:
Fable 2 has been in development since 2006, and is the sequel to the successful Xbox games Fable, & Fable 1.5: The Lost Chapters. It is set in the same world of Albion but around 500 years later in what appears to be the age of enlightenment, when guns were still primitive, building a castle was cool, and you could still be a knight who rides around on horseback. Check out the rest of the preview after the jump. -
"GC is dead" proclaims Gamescom organisers
by Kevin Prince August 26th 2008 11:05 AM CDT0 Comments
In what is likely to turn into a year long slugfest between the Leipziger Messe and the Koelnmesse, the organisers of next years gamescom in Cologne have today confirmed the spritual successor the the Leipzig GC will take place from September 9th-13th 2009 with the game industry’s full backing. In a similar press release the Leipziger Messe today confirmed that after record attendance of 203,000 visitors, the show would return August 19th to 23rd 2009.
We at Xbox Focus like to watch these kind of fights as much as the next guy, but not when it might result in two smaller shows with less industry backing and less visitors.

Rumor: Gearbox is working on Halo 4...for next Xbox.
by Gus Lanzetta August 25th 2008 10:32 PM CDT0 Comments
You know when Gearbox execs were talking about working on something "big"? Not just big, but the biggest Gearbox project yet.
Now times that by a hundred; and you get "Halo title big".
Rumors that Gearbox is working on Halo 4 they have surfaced again, but this time on the newest issue of OXM. Their team has alledgedly investigated the rumor, and has found that, not only is Gearbox working on Halo 4, but the game will be a launch title for the Xbox 360's successor. Makes sense when looking at Gearbox's track record, and Bungie's apparant boredom with the Halo universe.
This is all rumor for now, but OXM has a good track record for their "predictions", so stay tuned, but not that tuned, as we shouldn't expect news on that front for a while.

Another price cut ad scan hits the web
by Gus Lanzetta August 25th 2008 10:14 PM CDT0 Comments
The last few weeks have brought us a lot of ads that show new prices for all the three SKUs of the 360 (U$199 for the arcade, U$299 for the 60gb Pro and U$399 for the Elite). Now there is a new ad (pictured left) from Kmart that also shows those prices. This is just more evidence to show that the price cut will happen.
Now, what will the U$199 Arcade mean to the Wii? Are the people that are looking for a Wii right now willing to trade the casual appeal of the system for a cheaper 360? I believe that if Microsoft uses that price and new games like Banjo Kazzoie to advertise heavily to that market, they might get a lot of new customers. To jump from that to stating that it might hurt the Wiis sales is a bit too much in my book. Also, it's important to note that this ad does not say anything about a motion controller bundled with the consoles, so, for now, none of the ads we've seen support the motion controller rumors. Maybe next year we'll be wiggling it for achievements?
