  • Afro Samurai to cut into your life in 2009

by Beau King July 24th 2008 10:54 AM CDT0 Comments

Like something out of a 70's Soul Train video, only cooler and more badass, comes the Afro Samurai onto our 360's. Voiced by Samuel L. Jackson this bad mama jama does it all both in the TV series and upcoming title. Namco Bandai has really done the show justice by adding elements of combat one only sees in a ninja flick. Blood, and lots of it.

IGN has recently played through some code at the San Diego Comic-Con '08 and are loving it. They have also been gracious enough to share with us. Here is a video displaying all the slicing and dicing one would want. My favorite aspect is how you can focus in and chop someone in half; and then watch a bucket of red death fly into the air. Awesome.
  • Fallout 3 comic

by Beau King July 24th 2008 10:14 AM CDT0 Comments

If you're not a fan of the Penny Arcade comic strip; you should be. They satire every game from WoW to Battlefield. To be honest, it's probably one of the best web comics out there. Alright enough obsessing, the guys recently created a strip just for Fallout 3 making fun of the Vault experiements that lie at the heart of the game. Most of their comics require you to know something about the game, but if nothing else they're pretty to look at.

Another I've seen recently summates the Big Three and their conferences in the best way possible. Simple and funny as hell. Take a look after the jump.
  • Geometry Wars 2 gets pushed up release

by Chris Holmes July 23rd 2008 8:16 PM CDT0 Comments

Bizarre Creations has today blessed us all with good news, for Geometry Wars 2 will now be released next Wednesday (July 30th) for 800 points, ($10 in US money and around £5 for those of a UK disposition). The game was previously down for an early August release at E3, so it's good to see it being released slightly earlier.

The original Geometry Wars was a major launch title for the Xbox Live Arcade and brought the twinstick shooter mechanic back into a very fun yet horrifically vicious package. The sequel will take the same gameplay, but will also throw in more enemy types, modes, and Live multiplayer to keep things fresh.
  • Xbox Play & Win a red Gears of War console

by Beau King July 23rd 2008 2:59 PM CDT3 Comments

We love Gears. You love Gears. The game is almost as synonymous with the xbox experience as the Halo series. So naturally any chance to get our hands on cool swag starts our jollies a jinglin'. With that in mind, Microsoft has recently posted another Play & Win contest featuring a red comic book looking console seen here. All you have to do to acquire the thing is download the Gears of War Play & Win Gamer Picture, then play the original Gears from today until the 27th.

Each day prizes will be given out and are comprised of any variation of console, T-shirt, and poster. The other two items have yet to show up for a closer peek, but I assure you they are equally as awesome. If putting down COD4 starts an anxiety attack however, just think by playing a little Gears now you may sand down some of that rust going into the sequel.
  • Halo 3 most played title for week of July 14th

by Chris Holmes July 23rd 2008 1:29 PM CDT0 Comments

Xbox Live's Major Nelson has today confirmed that Halo 3 was the most played title for 360s connected to Live for the week beginning July 14th. This is slightly unexpected as Call of Duty 4 has been dominating the top ten most played list for a while, keeping Bungie's flagship title at bay.

Maybe the new free map Cold Storage has helped to contribute to the surge, or the unfortunate self-destruction of Bungie's E3 presence brought Halo players back from their slumber. Whatever the reason, it's going to have a very tough fight on it's hands to retain the top position. Also interesting is the fact that the Too Human demo has gone in the most played charts at number seven, despite mixed views about it, but perhaps that could be due to the various meltdowns poor Dennis Dyack has had to put up with lately. Here's the full top ten list at Majornelson.
  • Rumour: Mass Effect trilogy still on and maybe exclusive to 360

by Chris Holmes July 22nd 2008 5:13 PM CDT0 Comments

After EA ruthlessly snapped up Bioware and Pandemic late last year, many Xbox fanboys have been worrying about the exclusivity of the Mass Effect series on the 360, perhaps alluding to the fact that EA likes pumping out titles for every system for most of their titles. According to an interview Australian 360 magazine had with Bioware supremo Ray Muzyka, the entire trilogy will still be on 360.

The good doctor stated “we said we were committed to supporting Mass Effect as a franchise and have the trilogy on the Xbox 360, and that’s still our goal, “we’re always very ambitious in our goals and the most important thing is quality, so we’re never going to compromise that.” It still sounds like a bit of a sidestep to the question of exclusivity so we guess it remains to be seen whether it will be a 360/PC only title.
  • Microsoft details community games at Gamefest 08

by Chris Holmes July 22nd 2008 3:09 PM CDT0 Comments

Microsoft today announced a few more little tidbits about their upcoming community titles at their indy-game focused Gamefest event. Firstly, going against what was previously thought by the ever-hungry Live community, most of the games will come at a charge. This is the danger with people making things these days, they just don't do it for free.

The point range for the games will be from 200 to 800 spacebucks, or $2.50 to $10 for those who like normal money, a fair amount for these small games. Microsoft is also being ever so kind to the small developers it wants to support, offering them up to 70% of the game's total revenue. However, prepare to moan as these titles will not support achievements, at least at the time of the service's launch, which is still a rather sketchy "Fall 2008". We suspect it will come along with the new dashboard update, so they can get the new infrastructure integrated as easily as possible.
  • In-depth walkthrough of the new Dashboard

by Beau King July 22nd 2008 9:13 AM CDT3 Comments

As we've posted earlier, use of the whole Dashboard is almost completely optional as the guide level brings everything from the present experience to one place. For you adventurous few however, there is much more to see and do. Each of these new features are now covered in a conclusive walkthrough from a Microsoft developer. Most of what we've seen before has been sort of piecemeal as one, or maybe even two, areas of interest are showcased. Here all "channels" are seen and exemplified.

The only question that lingers in my mind is how so many people believe the New Experience to be so confusing. As you watch it is plain to see how straightforward everything is. Therefore, anyone who may break a mental sweat over this should trade in their Xbox and stick to Wii Sports.
  • Porn found on file share in Halo 3

by Beau King July 22nd 2008 8:20 AM CDT3 Comments

It’s funny to think just how widespread the world of pornography reaches. Worse than any computer virus the stuff infiltrates close to every public computer with an internet connection the world over. The lonely and mischievous always find a way to avoid filters and firewalls in order to bring boobies on screen.

Sadly when we all thought the fight was finished a new flood has arisen to combat our multiplayer experience. Apparently while surfing a recent player’s profile and file share a fellow ‘Liver stumbled across boobies. Lots of 'em. Since when anyone could host more than halo pics is beyond me, but this new addition seems to just add player creativity and user created content.

On the other hand, this could become another rallying point for the angry mom mob to grab a hold of (and then beat to death).
  • New Tomb Raider: Underworld teaser released

by Chris Holmes July 21st 2008 2:06 PM CDT0 Comments

Eidos have released a new teaser trailer for Tomb Raider Underworld today, but before rampant fans run out there to purchase lube, this is the first Tomb Raider trailer we've seen that doesn't show Lara in good old-fashioned sexy poses, instead focusing on the interior of a rather ornate building being blown up, hardly orgasm-worthy material. It is doubtful that we'll be able to destroy such an environment ingame, but as a teaser it does the job well, complete with some lovely dramatic classical music, just like every other big game coming. Hopefully soon a publisher can buck this trend, and market their serious games along to christian rock.
